We had heard reports of sun popping in but Saturday was overcast, drizzling and very buggy. The kids have already been chewed their fair share so we were trying to be cautious with the hungry mosquitos. Of course it's close to impossible to keep two very outdoor loving children inside for long. Both were tired though and took nice naps in the afternoon, which allowed Daddy to help Poppi with a few things and well, Mommy took a nap with Tucky too. I was tired too.
The kids wanted to play outside and as soon as Brooklyn found the sand/water table, forget it, she was in heaven. The played on the swings, climbed up the slide and just got really wet at the water table. Tuck didn't skip a beat, remembering everything from the year before and wanting to do it all. We took the golf cart down to the pier and threw rocks in the water. That's where I learned to throw a ball too and let me say that Brookleberry has quite an arm already! Uncle Forbes and Aunt Dooley were also here this weekend so we got to catch up with them as well. We're all very excited because we are going to have so many McMullin's up for the 4th of July! Can't wait!Mimi whipped up a great dinner and we had a nice visit with Aunt Dooley, Uncle Forbes, George S., and our gang. Brooklyn crashed just before everyone arrived but Tuck decided he wanted to be a part of the fun and ended up eating a second dinner, plus two helpings of dessert. Yes, he likes Mimi's cooking and she spoils him to boot... :) The kid ate and ate, we couldn't believe it and wondered where it was going. He tried fiddleheads and ate them all up too. Growing boy.
Sunday morning started early for Daddy, around 5:15am with Brooklyn crying out. I slept a little longer, 6:15am, when Tucky walked upstairs to my bed and said, "Mommy, it's awake time." Mimi was already making blueberry pancakes and Brooklyn had been busy entertaining everyone for the last hour. It was foggy outside and the bugs were thick so we stayed inside as long as we could hold off the kids. Unfortunately, Brooklyn and Tuck both got a few more bites and then we lubed them up heavily. That seemed to work. They played at the water table again, played on the swings, Tuck found his golf clubs, rode the little tractor, etc. Tuck also heard Poppi out on his big tractors grading the road and managed to get a ride in with him. He loved helping grade the road and was gone for about 30 minutes helping. When he came inside later, he told Mimi that he needed a grader and scoop for his ride on tractor so he could help Poppi. Yes, Poppi has created and is fueling a monster....hahaThe sun finally started shining brightly after we finished lunch and headed out to help Mimi and Poppi plant the garden. Tuck and I planted seeds and he helped Mimi make holes with her hoe. Despite being 3, he was very careful with where he stepped and was a great help. He really loves to work and loves being able to help! He got to help Poppi load rocks in the bucket of the tractor and he continued to talk about that for the rest of the day. We spent over an hour out in the dirt and finally Tucky walked off and stated, "That was really hard work. I am very tired." Then he disappeared inside and woke up Daddy, who was stealing in a quick nap with Brooklyn. I thought he'd crash but that didn't last long and he was right back outside playing with a few minutes.
Uncle Jeffy, Danielle, Nahne, Nahne's friend Emily and the rest of us spent the whole afternoon out front near the swing set playing in the sun. Uncle Jeffy pulled out the bean bag toss and we all put on shorts and took our socks off so we could run barefoot! What a nice feeling that was. The kids had an absolute blast playing outside with everyone and it's great now that Brooklyn is walking, she's such a happy camper now!

We had thought about staying and going down to Uncle Forbes's house for dinner but the kids were crashing so after eating a bit at Mimi's, we packed up and got ready to go. Tucky was really upset at the thought of missing Danielle's birthday party so we called them and they came up to the farmhouse so we could sing and give Danielle her gifts before we left. He was beaming as he helped Mimi carry the cake with lighted candles to her and we all sang. I think that completed his night because as soon as we started off down the road, he crashed! Brooklyn, however, did not fall asleep until Augusta.....
The highlight as well for the kids was that Danielle brought down an ice cream maker and she made everyone homemade vanilla ice cream! Tuck and Brooklyn gobbled it all up, they were loving it and what a nice touch as the sun popped out and it got hot!
As I write this I hear Daddy, Brooklyn and Tuck making a ruckus downstairs dancing to the Black Eyed Peas song, "Can't get enough." Videocamera, where are you?
