Project Paddle ME

On Saturday, June 23rd, I'll be leaving from Cape Porpoise in my sea kayak and paddling to Machias Bay. The goal, besides paddling the 350 miles of Maine coastline, is to raise awareness about adaptive paddling and hopefully raise funds to help create more programs through Maine Handicapped Skiing. I'll be out following the Maine Island Trail for about 5 weeks, making a few stops to put on clinics and other paddles.

I'll be posting on www.projectpaddleme.blogspot.com for the next 5 weeks. Check out the website as well at www.projectpaddleme.com.

Back in Penobscot Bay!!

I leave on my trip in just under 2 weeks and the one thing I haven't done this year that I've really wanted to is go down to Penobscot. So on Saturday, Jay, Casco and I took the drive to Bagaduce Bay. Most of the family was done there except Jeffy, who was working. It was such a beatiful 2 days and great to just relax, read and look out at the ocean.

I started paddling at Blue Hill Falls about 11 years ago and I absolutely love that place, although it's changed. The wave isn't as good anymore, but there still is a smaller wave to play on. Jay and I drove over and I tried to surf the wave on my board. Peter L was there too and surfing on an 11ft. board. I had my 9ft board so we hooked up a rope to the bridge and it was great. The wave lasts for about 2 hours, while 1 hour is really the best. It was super easy to stand up and surf but it wasn't very steep so if you held on to the rope you could play as long as you wanted.

We also all walked the land down near the lookout and Dad told us there could be two water house lots. Wow, this is the most beautiful place in the world, we grew up down here, and now there's a possability that we'll be able to build something in the future. I'm very pumped and the pictures so the spot and the view... priceless!

We just got home a little while ago and Casco is wiped. She fell asleep in the kitchen and hasn't budged. We made a list on the way home of all the projects we'd like to work on at the house... there's a lot, but I'll be gone for about 5 weeks.

In the garden

After the many days of rain, Jay and I wanted to check out how the garden was doing. Actually it wasn't that bad and we have many plants doing well. The lettuce is starting to come up and others I can't identify because I didn't mark them when we planted. The flower beds are also doing well, especially my lupine which I transplanted last fall.

I'll probably post one or two more times on this blog before I take off on my 5 week sea kayaking trip. From June 20th on, I'll be posting on
www.projectpaddleme.blogspot.com. The official website is www.projectpaddleme.com
